On October 23, AccessPrivacy held an interactive online workshop focused on Canada's renewed AI Strategy, in response to the public engagement "sprint" launched by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED).
The workshop was focused on the theme of building safe AI systems and strengthening public trust in AI, one of eight key areas identified by ISED in its framework for the consultation and complementary AI Strategy Task Force.
The workshop included a panel discussion moderated by Adam Kardash (Co-Chair of Osler’s Privacy and Data Management Team and National Lead of AccessPrivacy) and included comments and insights from Aaron Brindle (Partner, Radical Ventures), Simona Gandrabur (AI Safety Studio Lead, Mila – Quebec AI Institute), Cam Linke (CEO, Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii)) and Masoumeh Shafieinejad (Applied Machine Learning Scientist – Privacy Enhancing Technologies, Vector Institute).
The balance of the workshop consisted of a broader conversation moderated by Éloïse Gratton (Co-Chair of Osler’s Privacy and Data Management Team) and Adam Kardash, addressing questions and comments from workshop attendees.
The AccessPrivacy team was pleased to share the recording of the workshop with ISED as part of the consultation process, along with an explanatory cover letter setting out key themes and considerations raised during the session.
