Prime Minister Stephen Harper's nominee for Privacy Commissioner of Canada

June 6, 2014

Daniel Therrien, is officially Canada's new Privacy Commissioner.  Yesterday, a majority of the House of Commons approved Stephen Harper's nominee.  The seven year appointment of Daniel Therrien as the Privacy Commissioner of Canada was endorsed by the Senate earlier this week, and therefore took effect immediately upon approval by the House of Commons.

Therrien replaces Chantal Bernier, who held the role of  Interim Privacy Commissioner of Canada since December, 2013 and who served as the Assistant-Commissioner for five years prior to that.  Bernier is no longer with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
