Final Anti-Spam Law Regulations Released

December 4, 2013

Industry Canada has released the final Electronic Commerce Protection Regulations to Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL).  The accompanying Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement indicates that CASL will come into force, in part, on July 1, 2014.  The private right of action under the Act will not be in force until July 1, 2017, and the computer programming provisions will not be in force until January 15, 2015.

For addition details, see the Government of Canada and  Industry Canada press releases.

We will be having the first of several planned AccessPrivacy CASL workshops on Thursday, December 12, 2013.  The purpose of this session will be to explore the meaning and impact of the final regulations.

We will also be discussing this development on our next monthly call on December 18, 2013.  You may also be interested in our next CPO Training Session - Introductory Training for New and Developing CPOs on December 9, 2013 at our Heenan Blaikie offices in Toronto.  This is a great opportunity to get up to speed if you are fairly new in your role, or to train a member of your team.  Please visit our events page for more information on all upcoming events.
