The Canadian privacy arena will be significantly impacted by PIPEDA's new security breach notification regime, which will come into force on November 1, 2018.

Please join us for this timely workshop to explore the meaning and impact of the final breach regulations; assess the "real risk of signficant harm" threshold using practical scenarios; and, participate in a moderated discussion of some of the operational and implementation challenges for organizations, including:

A. Crisis Management: Engagement of public relations experts working with legal counsel

B. Breach Notifications: Timing and content considerations

C. Interactions with Data Protection Regulators

D. Credit monitoring post Equifax breach

E. Managing actual or potential class action lawsuits in parallel

F. Coordinating breach responses and apportioning risk/liability among third party vendors

G. Insurance claims and coverage issues

H. Managing potential criminal elements and reporting to law enforcement

I. Maintaining breach records

Hypothetical security incidents will be presented to workshop participants, who will use electronic audience response technology to provide immediate, anonymous feedback on whether the hypothetical incidents constitute a “real risk of significant harm” or about their organization’s approach to breach readiness.  With a quick an easy login, you can turn your smartphone or ipad into a real-time anonymous polling device.

Breakfast and registration opens at 8:00 am.  Workshop will start at 8:30 am.
